Russian celebrities who make wine
We are pleased with the fact that Russian winemaking has started to develop. However, unlike in the West, Russian celebrities in winemaking are rare birds. We have managed to find some interesting examples.
Hockey star Igor Larionov from the NHL has been producing and promoting wines in Russia together with Australian and Californian winemakers for several years now. The Larionov brand is growing steadily although there are different rumors about the commercial success of the company.
Five years ago in Moscow Russian director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov presented his Italian wine Dodici from Tuscany. According to press reports, the wine was tasted by Berlusconi and Putin. The literal meaning of the wine’s name is “12” - as the film of the same name by the master.

There is another successful Russian who went further — Gerard Depardieu. For years, he has been producing glorious wines all over the world. His Chateau de Tigne in France makes the Vins Gerard Depardieu collection in the Anjou region from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes. The prominent actor has a small bodega in Spain, in DOC Priorat (he was one of the first to see the potential of the region and invest in).
